Join the Mailing List
The mailing list is where members and non-members alike discuss issues. We have many other methods of communication as well, but the mailing list is the "official" place for announcements to take place.
Please check also the Communications page for other ways of reaching out to us
The list is here: https://groups.google.com/forum/#!forum/prishtina-hackerspace
Joining the mailing list requires a google account, so you can either:
- use your personal google account (gmail etc.)
- use your Prishtina Hackerspace account if you have one
Note - Send us an email introducing yourself if you join Prishtina Hackerspace.
Come to the weekly meeting
The project manager is responsible for ensuring that the meeting follows the procedures as in the Meeting Template. The project coordinator/assistant is responsible for keeping minutes of the meeting.
The weekly Open meetings are every Tuesday night at 6:00 pm.
- You can get some info as a first time visitor
- If a member, you can vote on an issue for vote
- You can make a call for equipment or supplies that you need for your project.
- You can meet several members, non-members as well.
- You can get updated about the regular meetups held in the hackerspace, space upgrades / space downgrades, upcoming workshops and events.
- You can see projects that people are working on, demonstrate projects that you are currently working on, talk about projects that you and others would like to work on.
See what is usually discussed in Open Meetings in the Meetings page
Note: - Make sure to get a tour around the hackerspace. Anyone at the weekly meeting should be able to show you around. If you can't make a Tuesday meeting, consider attending one of the events being held in Prishtina Hackerspace - See the Calendar for upcoming events.
How to host an event, meeting or class?
Find an Instructor or Speaker
Are you the instructor? Good! Then you're already done with this step.
If you're not the instructor, find someone who knows about the thing you want to learn. Ask on the Mailing List. If you find someone, let them know it's for a good cause.
Pick a Date
We like to hold classes, events and user group meetings on Thursday nights, but any night is possible. Check our website or our Calendar to see if there is anything else scheduled at the same time/date. Make sure your date works for your instructor.
Scope out the Facilities
Make sure Prishtina Hackerspace has everything your instructor will need. Chairs? Tables? Power strips? Solder? Ponies? If there is something you need that we don't have, check with our staff and we can see what we can do.
You can charge for the class or not. Usually charging classes are organized only for fundraising purposes for the hackerspace. Mostly people will give their classes for free, but charge for materials. If you charge an instruction fee, you might consider donating some of it to Prishtina Hackerspace. Again please contact us about this on firstname.lastname@example.org
Post about your class on your personal blog or website, tweet it, and facebook it. When the week of your class arrives, let the people in our IRC room and mailing list know. Let the Prishtina Hackerspace know about it via an email on the miling list or at email@example.com so that we put your class in the schedule. Consider hanging up flyers at Prishtina Hackerspace so people that stop by will know about it.
Here's how we can help:
- Send us a description of your class/event with the event/class name and the date
- Send us the promotional materials and any other details we may need.
We will help you by publishing your activity on our main website, announce it on our Tuesday Open Meetings, and social networks.
Invite people and start taking down names to find out how many people can come. Consider using something like http://eventbrite.com to take reservations or any other tool that you may find easier.
Make sure that a Prishtina Hackerspace member or a staff member will be available to be on the premises for the entire time of the class or event. A member with the door code will need to open up the space before the class begins and lock it up after the last person leaves.
Setup / Teardown
Please find volunteers to set up the space before the class/event and clean up afterwards if the class will involve making any messes.
Start or Join a project
If you are looking to join a project, you can come at one of our Tuesday Open Meetings to see if there are projects that you can join in. Usually all our members are working on something, so they might need help or team up with someone.
You can also check the Projects page to see some of the group and individual projects that are taking place in Prishtina Hackerspace.
If you are looking to start your own project within Prishtina Hackerspace, that's simple!
The hackerspace is served to you or your group. You can use the hackerspace tools and spaces for your project as far as your activity doesn't interfere another activity or disturb the group of people already present in the hackerspace - If it does: You may have to schedule your activity with the Prishtina Hackerspace staff.
If you are not a member you can still stay at the hackerspace and work on your project as far as a member is inside the space. If the member leaves, unfortunately you have to leave as well. Please reed the Membership page to know more about your advantages/disadvantages as a member or non-member regarding the use of the hackerspace assets and spaces.
Here are things to do when cleaning up Prishtina Hackerspace when it gets particularly messy or when preparing for an open-to-the-public event.
